Vegan Hot Dog

Oh no you didn't!  Oh yes we did! No more processed meat hot dog, try this sneaking switch turning the hot dog into the #cacnerhatesitfood

Ingredients

  • 2 large carrots, peeled and cut into bun length I like to cut mine with tapered ends like a hot dog
  • 1/4 cup Bragg's Liquid Aminos or Soy Sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tbs balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tbs sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp liquid smoke must have for that meaty flavor
  • 2 cloves garlic, mashed and peeled
  • 1/4 tsp dried ginger
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbs olive oil or avocado oil
  • 2 whole wheat hot dog buns
  • 1/2 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1/4 cup diced purple onion
  • yellow organic mustard

Instructions

  1. After peeling and cutting carrots.  Boil them in water for about 6 minutes until they are soft but not mushy.   

  2. While carrots are cooking make the marinade.  In a bowl add next 10 ingredients to a glass container with a tight seal.  

  3. When hot dog, I mean carrots are finished cooking.  Run them under some cool water to stop the cooking process.  Add them to the marinade and seal tightly.  

  4. Marinate carrots for at least 24 hours.  This allows all the flavors to infuse and give you that hot dog taste.  When you think about it, give them a good shake in the container.  

  5. After 24 hours, heat a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the olive oil and about 1/4 cup of the marinade.  Cook carrots for about 8 minutes until browned.  

  6. Serve in a heated bun with cabbage on the bottom, carrot dog and then onions and yellow mustard.  

Recipe Notes

You can use any topping you like for this hot dog.  If you like vegan chili make a chili dog!  How about relish and sauerkraut!  Vegan cheese and stone ground mustard.  You pick!  YUM!
