How about a smoothie for dessert? I have a treat for you! This is a really delightful smoothie that is great for curbing dessert cravings. I call it my Black Forest Dessert Smoothie. If you are like me you crave a good dessert now and again. With my healthy lifestyle I try not to indulge as often as my brain wants me too. So I came up with this smoothie. I get whole real foods without a lot of guilt. Feeding my body the good stuff and my brain the sweetness it craves.
When we eat sweets a pleasure sensation is triggered in the brain and we get a release of dopamine. It is similar to a “high” that one would get from using illegal drugs. It is a dilemma that we all face from time to time. Do I eat this amazing doughnut full of chocolatey goodness that will make my brain happy OR do I not eat it and respect my body and the fact that I will feel like “ick” the rest of the day if I indulge? We all have these thoughts and choices to make on a daily basis. Honestly, sometimes the brain wins. It is ok to give in every once in awhile and reward yourself with a nice treat. With this smoothie you can have your Black Forest Cake Fake Out Smoothie and eat it too. Finding ways to fool your brain into satisfaction and feeding your body the goodness it requires is as simple as adding the ingredients below to a blender and enjoying the goodness.
Tricks For Eating Less Dessert
- If you find that the temptation is too great and you need dessert then opt to share with someone. This eliminates the pressure of eating the whole thing and gives you a great connection with someone else.
- Only buy or make dessert on special occasions. Having dessert is an event for me. If I make a dessert I am sure to only have enough on hand for the event or occasion. If there are leftovers I send them home with my guests or share them in the office the next day.
- If you keep dessert items in the house know that they will call to you. Our brains crave reward and pleasure. When you have dessert around you will eat it. Try not to keep it in the house. That will silence the “come eat me” signals a dessert will send out!
- Find healthy replacements for dessert. You don’t have to look very far to find all kinds of healthy dessert replacements. Included here is a recipe for a great brain “fake out”. You eat real foods that are good for you and your brain is happy with the sweet sensation.
