Resolution Reset Day – January 19, 2018

How is your 2018 going so far? We are two weeks into it and statistics show that most people who make resolutions have already quit by now! What the what? That’s right. Research shows that 80% of people who make a resolution will fail by February. Because of this, Natural Grocers has decided to launch Resolution Reset Day on January 19th! On this day, customers are invited to visit their local Natural Grocers stores to stock up on healthy, organic food and participate in events and giveaways. What a fun idea and a great way to recommit to your resolution. Natural Grocers isn’t just a typical grocery store; they are committed to helping you live your healthiest life! Tools for sticking to your healthy living resolution!

If your resolution was to adopt a healthier diet, one of the reasons you might not reach your goal is not preparing correctly. Have you ever heard of the term meal prep before? It’s when you take a few hours to prepare meals for the rest of the week. Meal prep can help support you by saving you money, saving you time, portioning out your meals so you won’t overeat, and having food ready to keep you out of the drive-thru! We all lead busy lives, and if you wait until you are hungry to make decisions about your food, you will most likely just grab anything that is nearby and convenient.

I know what you’re thinking right now. Leslie, I don’t know where to even start with meal prep. I’ve never done it before and it seems like a lot of work. No worries, I’ve got you covered with my new Meal Plan Like a Boss program! In it you will get my top 5 tips for meal planning from my Kitchanatomy 10 Step Kitchen Detox class and three worksheets to get you started on the right foot. It’s completely FREE and you can get it by visiting my website here: www.g2kvip.com. You’re welcome!

My Favorite Tips!

Another tip for eating healthy on the go is making smoothies! Smoothies are a great way to pack lots of nutrients, fruits, and vegetables into one serving and they are lightning fast! You can make them even faster if you prepare them ahead of time by blending up a power packed smoothie base then divide it into ice cube trays and freeze them! The next time you are ready for a fresh smoothie, just pop 2-3 cubes into your blender with some water and blend! You can store your frozen smoothie cubes in a mason jar and they should last about a week. Try mixing and matching lots of different fruits, veggies, and greens for these smoothies and to make sure you’re getting a variety of vitamins, nutrients, and flavors! One smoothie base I like to make often contains the following ingredients:

  • 1 banana
  • 1 large handful of spinach
  • 1/2 cup frozen organic berries
  • 1/2 cup carrots
  • 1/4 cup walnuts
  • 2 tsp favorite green powder
  • 2 tsp collagen
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • dash cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 cup coconut water

My last and final tip for you today is something that may be a completely new concept to you, bento boxes! Bento boxes originated in Japan and they are single portion meals that are prepared at home in trays or bowls that are usually divided into different portions. You can Google bento box to find lots of info and ideas for making your own at home. What’s so great about bento boxes is they give you built-in portion control and you can prepare a few at a time and keep them in the refrigerator and then just grab them as you need them. Some things I like to put into my bento box are:

  • avocado stuffed meatballs
  • citrus peeled or unpeeled
  • celery pieces with almond butter or hummus
  • carrot chips or sticks
  • pumpkin seeds with cranberries or pistachios
  • a small square of chocolate for a sweet treat
  • small organic apple
  • raw grass-fed cheeses
  • avocado slices
  • boil pasture-raised eggs

I hope I have inspired you with some ideas to help you stick to your resolutions and healthy eating! Being successful in the kitchen and with your diet has a lot to do with being prepared and having the right tools on hand!
