Dessert Hummus Recipe, Chocolate Hummus

Dessert Hummus

You read that right, we are making dessert hummus today! I’m about to blow your mind with something I am 99.9% sure you’ve never tried or maybe never even heard of. We all know about the delicious, chickpea based hummus that is savory and comes in lots of flavors like garlic, red pepper, and more.  Well, move over cause now you can have hummus for dessert! It still has a base of chickpeas but we are going to be adding in some fruit and, wait for it, chocolate to flavor our hummus. This makes a great dip for parties or a delicious snack when you need something creamy and sweet but still healthy. To sweeten this hummus we are going the natural route and using figs. Figs are perfect for this recipe because they provide a perfect sweetness without being overbearing and also have some flavors of their own that will add to the recipe. I always purchase

To sweeten this hummus we are going the natural route and using figs. Figs are perfect for this recipe because they provide a perfect sweetness without being overbearing and also have some flavors of their own that will add to the recipe. I always purchase Valley Fig figs because they are so tasty and they have a wide variety of types of figs. Today’s recipe calls for Mission Figs, the darker more rich fig, and also Calimyrna Figs, which are a golden color and have a more caramel type flavor to them.

We are still using chickpeas in this recipe, and for good reason. Chickpeas are so healthy for our bodies and they also are mild enough that they take on the flavor of whatever you pair them with. Chickpeas deliver a large amount of fiber to our bodies, which supports digestion, prevents constipation, and balances the pH balance of the gut. Did you know a single cup of chickpeas provides 50% of your daily fiber requirements? Crazy right? Also, one cup of chickpeas supplies your body with 26% of your daily iron and they also help you feel full longer, so they can contribute to weight loss and a heart-healthy diet.

Because there are no added sugars or unhealthy fats added to either of these desserts, you can partake in them and feel good about what you are eating and feeding your family and friends. You could eat these at room temperature or chilled, whichever you prefer, and get creative with what you use for dipping! I am using apples and strawberries and figs today but you could also use grapes, melon, or even a healthy cracker or bread for a more hearty dessert. Ok, let’s break out the food processor and get started!
